Disaster has struck just two weeks before the opening match of the JSSN U19 International Series, with Bronteys shooter Sienna Housby ruled out of the campaign after sustaining a serious ACL injury at training camp.
Housby, who was set to make her international debut after a standout domestic season, went down during the squad’s second high-intensity session and has since been withdrawn from the touring party.
JSSN officials confirmed on Monday that Shooters young gun Maya Linton will replace Housby in the 18-athlete squad.
A Cruel Blow for Housby
For Housby, the timing could not have been worse. Touted as one of the brightest attacking prospects in the competition, her versatility and flair in the circle had been earmarked as a key weapon for the JSSN against New Zealand.
“We’re devastated for Sienna,” said JSSN head coach Renae Carter. “She’s worked so hard to earn this opportunity and was shaping up as a real game-changer for us. The entire group is behind her as she begins her recovery.”
Enter Maya Linton
While the injury is a major setback, Linton’s late call-up ensures the squad will retain firepower in the shooting circle. The 18-year-old impressed throughout the 2025 JSSN season with her composure under pressure, aerial strength, and clutch shooting in tight contests.
Linton said she was “shocked but ready” when told of her inclusion.
“Of course you never want to see someone injured, especially a player as talented as Sienna,” she said. “But I’m grateful for the chance, and I’ll give everything for this squad.”
Squad Spirit Tested
With camp disrupted and the first test in Wellington now looming large, coaches are urging the group to rally. The focus will be on fast-tracking Linton into attacking structures and ensuring the squad’s chemistry is not unsettled by the late change.
The Panthers’ powerhouse contingent of Chloe Dyglet, Ruby Parmenter, Lily Weston, Amelia Antiss remain central to the team’s preparations, while leaders from across the JSSN clubs are expected to step up in the absence of Housby.
What’s Next

For Housby, the road to recovery begins now. For Linton, the dream of international netball is suddenly reality.
