The 2nd annual BGBL Golf invitational proved to be a success thanks to the two-headed committee of Casey McClure & Ham Long. Despite over 50% of the 25 particpants arriving after their scheduled tee time, every foursome was able to play at least 17 holes. The heavy favorite Ham Long was able to take home his second consecutive title, but not without the help from his new teammate, Adil Hamadeh. Despite being the subject of many jokes heading into the tournament, Hamadeh was actually able to secure a true birdie all by himself, without Ham's help. "That was the most fun I've ever had playing golf. Ham & I just fed off each other," said Hamadeh in the informal postgame interview.
Many also had fun embracing the 'shotgun for a mulligan' rule that was lobbied for by most of the degenerate alcoholics in the group. In fact, 'Group #3' headlined by FSU alumn Jeremy Gannon & UF alumn Anthony Zaleski, actually misinterpreted the shotgun rule, mistakenly thinking it applied to fairway shots & puts, not just tee shots. Once the rule was clarified by Casey McClure, the group stopped taking mulligans for shotguns on such shots. However, the volume of shotguns remained unchanged. At one point there were six holes separating the first group from the third group. Needless to say, the staff at Okeeheelee golf course was not happy with the pace of play.
Although Trevor Gilson's team came up slightly short of taking home the title, he did end up taking home $120 for the 'closest-to-the-pin' contest on the 18th hole. Nets GM Ryan Spencer, who's team also finished just a few strokes back from Ham, received a nice consolation prize, as well, when his team's logo was pulled in the draft lottery, securing him the #1 overall pick. Special thanks to Brad Emery, the 25th participant, who spent the day going from group-to-group capturing & reporting the action.
