Wes Mullen finished the night with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Jace Easley had 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists, and Conor McCaffrey, 15 points and 12 assists.
Our Saviors’ third game at home might have left a lot to be desired, but the big three had a big game and the Eagle’s defense carried the team to a 75-47 win over Athens at home on Tuesday night.
“Obviously, a record night for our guys,” said head coach Phillip Heppe “[I] think they are continuing to progress. There starting to understand the game just has to come to them. You have to snatch at it and get it.”
Five games into the season and Our Saviors’ offense still hasn’t come out ready to play. Headlining the slow start was the rest of the starters and bench, who struggled to find there shot in the first half. Luckily for the Eagles, they possessed a significant size advantage because the deep ball was not falling. Wes Mullen and Jace Easley dominated the paint in the first half, scoring a combined 29 points and pulled 17 rebounds.
It was another exceptionally strong defensive half, though. Our Saviors’ defense led the way on a 17-3 run that spanned nearly nine minutes to give the Eagles a double-digit lead. Athens was held to just 7-of-36 from the floor through the first 15 minutes thanks to a stout Our Savior's defense.
The Eagles came out of the break with a much better sense of urgency. A Mullen layup extended it to a 20-point lead in the opening minutes of the second half, and Our Savior's wouldn’t look back from that point. Conor McCaffrey continued the excitement on the offensive end draining one of just three Eagles three-pointers on the night and dumping it off to Mullen on the block for a reverse layup.
“I thought we got in a better rhythm,” Heppe said. “I thought we did a better job pitching the ball in tonight.”
Our Savior's kept its foot on the gas for the rest of the night pulling away from the Warriors, 75-47.
