A facial injury kept Jace Easley from playing, but on the court the Eagles still found a way to get things done.
In a day flooded with news of Easley's facial injuries that kept him out of at least Tuesday's game, it was the guards of McCaffrey and Schmidt that led Our Savior's past Mount Pulaski, 76-60.
McCaffrey and Schmidt accounted for 24 of the Eagles 36 first-half points. McCaffrey led the way with 16 before the break, including a pair of flashy 3's. Schmidt had eight points, five rebounds and three assists in the first half.
McCaffrey finished the contest with 38 points, while Schmidt sniffed a triple-double with 10 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists.
“I was just playing for them out there,” Schmidt said. “I wasn't aware of anything out there, my near triple double. I was just trying to get the dub for my seniors, for Jace.”
It wasn't the cleanest game, as the Eagles (17-6, 13-4 Conference) turned it over 15 times. But Our Savior's was able to hold Mount Pulaski's (5-17, 0-15 Conferece) leading scorer to just five points on 2-of-6 shooting, giving the Eagles a fighting chance in their final ever home game at Our Savior's.
