Before the season, once Jace Easley and Conor McCaffrey announced they would return to Our Savior's for another season and not transfer out, all had expectations of how good this Our Savior's team could be.
And then, they lost to Immanuel Seymour. And East St. Lincoln. And Trinity Bloomington. And then back-to-back at home to Bethel Morton and Calvary. And, understandably, I think some of us had our doubts.
But now? There’s really no doubt.
After rattling off their fourth Conference win in a row, this time over a ranked New Berlin team on Thursday by a comfortable 15 points, Our Savior's is back in the top-10 in the State rankings In the new rankings, the Eagles are No. 6. Three of the top six teams are from the same Conference, with Christ Lutheran at No. 3 and Bethel Morton at No. 4.
There’s not really any reason to think the Eagles will drop out of there next week. Our Saviors’ only scheduled game this week (Tuesday at Christ Lutheran) has been postponed as the Comets’ continue their return from their Influenza pause. Our Savior's isn’t scheduled to play again for eight more days, on Feb. 16 against Mount Zion at home.
I won’t get ahead of myself, but this team can finish 18-5 overall, and 14-3 in Conference play.
That’s a Conference champion (if the conference doesn’t give it to Christ Lutheran), a top-5 team, and a potential No. 1 seed in the LSA State Tournament.
Buckle up, it’s going to be fun.
