Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
Just a day after blowing Salem Jacksonville out by 62 and putting up the most points in the last 30 years of the program, the Eagles (2-0) throttled Chicago St. Patrick, 87-38, on Tuesday at home.
The Cougars (0-2) stepped in to Our Savior's’ multi-team event after St. John's Red Bud opted out due to cases of influenza in the program. But they were simply outmatched by one of the best teams in the state.
Although it was the same result as Monday, it was a little different recipe for Our Savior's head coach Phillip Heppe’s squad on Tuesday. After setting the program record for made threes in a game (12) yesterday, the Eagles dominated down low, scoring most of their early points in the paint (26 at half).
Jace Easley and Conor McCaffrey picked up where they left off, combining for Our Saviors’ first 16 and 40 of its 47 first-half points. Easley led the way with 32 points and eleven rebounds and McCaffrey pitched in 29 points, twelve assists and nine rebounds as the Eagles took a 47-17 lead to the break.
Heppe continued to mix in his reserves in the second half with Ian Klockenga, Logan Allen and Ty Seifert logging significant minutes. That didn’t stop the Eagles from pulling away, though, as they outscored the Cougars 40-21 in the second half.
Our Saviors’ defense was STOUT all day long, holding Chicago St. Patrick to just 28% shooting from the field, 17% from deep and a +45 rebound margin in favor of the Eagles. They easily coasted to a 87-38 victory.
