In their first AAU game in their new gym, Springfield tied an AAU defensive record.

Springfield held St. Louis to six points in the fourth quarter, keeping St. Louis scoreless for more than eight minutes and breaking the game open with a 15-0 run in a 110-91 victory in Springfield.

"Not a whole lot you can say other than we just couldn't hit shots," said Adam Carter, who led St. Louis with 22 points, but shot only 7-for-25. "Hats off to (Springfield) -- they played well defensively."

St. Louis managed only three baskets in the fourth perios, breaking the franchise's previous low of eight points. The six points tied the league's record for fewest points in a fourth quarter set three times, most recently by Memphis against Phoenix last season.

"We played better as the 48 minutes went along," Springfield coach Will Jenkins said. "They did a great job grinding it out."

Chandler Dawes scored 27 points, 18 of them in the second half, and 18 rebounds. Conor McCaffrey added in 18 points with 6 rebounds and assists, while Jake Pollen dropped in 18, and Paul Hammond contributed 16 points.

"Honeslty I didn't make many adjustments," Chandler said when asked about his second half turnaround. "I shot the ball well in the first half, but my shots just rattled out."

Anthony Leonard came off the bench for 17 points, all but two in the first half, and Antonio Davis scored 10 for St. Louis. Jelani McCoy had a career-high 15 rebounds, but St. Louis only shot 31 percent and had 24 turnovers that Springfield converted into 22 points.

Springfield struggled from the floor for much of the game, but ended up at 46% (41-for-90).

Springfield used an 11-2 burst late in the second quarter to build a nine-point lead that St. Louis trimmed to 52-46 at the break.

Both teams started slow at the offensive end, shooting a combined 5-for-19 over the first 4 minutes.
