The O.S. Springfield Eagles soared to a decisive 74-56 victory over DePaul CP on Saturday June 1, 2019. Led by a stellar performance from Conor McCaffrey, the Eagles set the tone for their summer campaign with exceptional teamwork and individual brilliance.
From the opening tip, the Eagles came out firing, building an 18-point lead by halftime. McCaffrey delievered an all-around performance, finishing with 37 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists, and 6 steals. His efficiency from the floor (12-21 FG, 4-7 3PT) was instrumental in dismantling the DePaul defense, and he provided a spark on both ends of the court.
Jeremiah Perkins was a force in the paint, contributing a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds while anchoring the defense. His relentless effort on the boards and timely scoring complemented McCaffrey’s explosive output. Meanwhile, Logan Allen added 9 points and showcased his versatility with 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

Dawson Strauch and Daniel First each added 4 points, while Tristyn Carlove and Noah Oldham provided defensive pressure and hustle off the bench. Ian Klockenga made his presence felt with 4 rebounds, further solidifying the Eagles’ dominance on the glass.
The Eagles’ suffocating defense forced DePaul into multiple turnovers, with the team tallying 9 steals overall. Their defensive effort stifled DePaul’s offensive rhythm and created opportunities in transition, where the Eagles excelled.
Head Coach Phillip Heppe praised his team’s effort post-game: “We emphasized coming out with energy and playing as a team, and I think we saw that tonight. Conor’s leadership was key, and the guys fed off his energy. We still have areas to improve, but this is a great start.”
The Eagles shot an impressive 50% from the field (27-54) and knocked down six three-pointers, showcasing their balanced offensive attack. They also converted 14 of their 15 free-throw attempts, demonstrating poise at the line.
With a promising start to the summer season, the O.S. Springfield Eagles look poised to build on this performance and continue their upward trajectory. They’ll face new challenges in the weeks to come, but Saturday’s game highlighted their potential as a cohesive and dynamic unit.
