Kal’s Kingpins outlast Daley Double in an overtime thriller 77-75
This was a back and forth game all night as Dave (anger management) Loefrado started off hot for Kal’s with eight quick points but was offset by Matt McCaffery who thought he was back in Lowell MA in 1984. Daley’s trio of McCaffery (26), unguardable Paul Stevenson(13) & All Star Todd Santora (24)who can go inside and outside were a handful all night. For Kal’s Rob Ashe (27) played an elite 4th quarter blowing by his man and taking it to the hoop to keep the game close. In the second half a technical on each team led to big point swings with Daley’s going up by 3 with 25 seconds left. The final play for Kal’s worked just as drawn up. After a wild shot that missed badly, Steve Shields won a critical battle for the rebound and kicked it out to rookie Dave Snyder (15) who made the first three pointer of his life. He was so confident when he took the shot he turned his back on the play to listen for the cheer of the crowd. As it glassed in from the top of the key the five fans in attendance went crazy and the game was tied. In overtime Rob Ashe was too much for Daley’s and Kal’s went on to win 77-75.
Lennon Lightning Come back to beat Stevens Savages 61-57
Stevens Savages played a solid first quarter going up 17-8 with Marco (16) bombing in two threes from half court and Johnson(15) & Jason Conway (7) contributing to the lead. For the next three quarters their defense broke down and allowed 19, 17 & 17 in the final three quarters. Tyrone started warming up in quarter 2 with 5 quick points although he did struggle from the line. Once he get’s his wind back he is going to be hard to deal with down low as Tom Fryer can attest. During the third quarter Johnson lost a contact and actually started shooting better. Time to update that prescription. For Lennon’s Lightning there were two big story lines. The scorers table was commenting on how immense Chris Schott (24) was in this game scoring 14 in the final period with some big steals, fast breaks & outside shots. The second big story line was rookie Carey Cusick hitting five three’s on his way to a 21 point night. This happened to be one of the guys that Karl said he had never seen him play and offered no scouting report on his abilities. This looks like a shrewd 6th round pick from the commish.
McGonagle’s Mongrels Shocked Sadler’s Shockers 64-53
McGonagle's Mongrels shocked Sadler's shockers. The Mongrels were with out Steve Ellis but coach McGonagle rallied his team of misfits to their first win of the season. John Ganem was a welcomed sight back to the league. New comer John Daley chipped in with 10 points in his very first game. After the game the Mongrels were heard saying that "it was the leadership of the coach that brought them to victory". There was a technical in the game but it wasn’t Ferrari! For team Sadler Grant Sidney pumped in 19 and coach Sadler added 13.
Buatti’s Bulldogz Handle Magic Mullins 66-58
Buatti’s Bulldogz led this close game from start to finish. Scott True did most of the damage with 24 pts. His game thrives on the big court. Paul Fallisi & Mark chipped in with 13 & 12. Jerry (welcome back) Hawkins had 9. Steve Burns led the way for magic Mullins with 18 points. Rookie Dave Rose had 15. He must have a playing time bonus since he logged heavy minutes.
