As I question my family's decision to endure the 3-hour wait for outdoor seating overlooking the Inglewood Forum (my nephew is a huge 80's Lakers fan. Not Kobe & Shaq's Lakers. Magic and Big Game James and Cooper's socks were the truth, he says).
As I say, the buzz at Roscoe's is intense as I type over the hijacked wi-fi from the Urgent Care next door. No insinuation about Roscoe's food is implied by this coincidence.
Back to the buzz at Roscoe's. It's vibrant but it's nothing compared to the waves of enthusiasm washing over the entire country, emanating from the center of the basketball world today. No, not Milwaukee or Oakland. Not even Boston or Houston. Surprisingly, amidst the NBA Playoff season, the most hype place on the planet is at GN Baptist Arena in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
That's because of the release of the highly anticipated pre-season rankings, coinciding with Easter Sunday morning, has brought many sleeping fans to new life, and many desperate players to rededication. The coaches have spoken and according to the accounting firm of Barnes, Brock, Cornwell & Painter, who have certified the results, below are the WLC BBALL Pre-Season Rankings. Each coach was asked to rank the teams from first to last, and points awarded for each ranking. Six points for a first place vote, five points for a second place vote, four points for a third place vote, and so on. Total points awarded in parenthesis.
It's little surprise, given their arrogance and hubris, that all but one Captain voted his own team first. Of course, on this holiest of holy days, it's good to remember the words of our Risen Savior: "So the last will be first, and the first will be last."
Too bad that verse doesn't work at Roscoe's...
