The Vancouver Ismaili Basketball League (VIBL) is a competitive men's basketball league for players ages 15 years and above. It is the first Ismaili basketball league to come to fruition in Canada.
The aim of this league is to support and nurture the growing level of interest in basketball, by providing a formal avenue for those who love the game to engage on a regular basis. We also hope to achieve the following goals:
1) Encourage excellenge in sports in a meaningful and consistent manner over a substantial period of time
2) Promote a healthy and balanced life from both a physical health and life choices point of view
3) Encourage the development of positive social relationships between diverse ethnic members of the Ismaili community
4) Serve as a means to prepare our athletes for competitive tournaments such as Post-Secondary Games, Canadian Ismaili Games and International Jubilee Games
In 2019 we completed our first inaugural season which spanned 9 weeks and fortunately it was a great success! We are grateful to the Aga Khan Youth & Sports Board, athletes, spectators, scorekeepers, and other volunteers who showed their support. This program will continue to strengthen ties in our community for years to come. We plan to use the feedback we receive to expand each and every season. For example, plans include incorporating a women's league and potentially increasing the length of the season.
