SPRINGFIELD, IL – A Program-Defining Moment as the Eagles Secure the No. 2 Seed
O.S. Springfield delivered a resounding statement win against No. 5 East St. Louis, avenging a previous defeat and asserting themselves as one of the most dangerous teams heading into the postseason. With this 68-63 victory, Springfield has now won three consecutive games against Top-10 opponents, a feat that has sent a strong message across the state.

This game was more than just a victory—it was a symbol of Springfield’s growth and resilience. Instead of relying solely on their star duo, Jace Easley and Conor McCaffrey, the Eagles demonstrated their deep roster strength, led by a career-best performance from Jeremiah Perkins, who scored a team-high 22 points.

With this win, Springfield finishes the regular season at 32-6 (16-4 in conference play), securing the No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament and cementing itself as a true championship contender.

"We’re playing our best basketball at the right time," said head coach Phillip Heppe. "This team has built itself up all season. We’ve faced adversity, we’ve fought through it, and now we’re ready to take on anyone. This is the best team in program history, and it’s going to be fun to see how far we can go."

East St. Louis entered the game with a mission to close out the regular season with a statement win of their own, aiming to complete a season sweep over Springfield. Their earlier victory in December—where Jace Easley poured in 36 points and Conor McCaffrey added 28—was a thrilling contest that saw the Flyers prevail in a high-scoring shootout.

However, this time around, Springfield adjusted their game plan, taking the pressure off their two stars and instead spreading the offensive load. Perkins, who had been steadily improving throughout the season, had his breakout game at the perfect time. Alongside him, Lucas Schmidt and Logan Allen contributed key baskets, combining for 32 points between them. This balanced scoring attack, paired with an unrelenting defensive effort, proved to be too much for East St. Louis to handle.

Despite multiple opportunities to seize control of the game, the Flyers found themselves unable to break through against Springfield’s tough interior defense. The Eagles held their ground in the closing moments, forcing contested shots and controlling the glass to secure the win.

The numbers speak for themselves—O.S. Springfield has now won 17 of its last 18 games, proving their consistency and ability to perform against elite opponents.

Their 5-1 record against Top-10 teams and 12-3 record against Top-25 competition showcases that Springfield isn’t just beating good teams—they’re consistently taking down the best in the state. The Eagles have not just won games—they’ve learned from their losses, making key adjustments that have transformed them into a battle-hardened, championship-caliber team.

This late-season surge has them soaring with confidence heading into the postseason, where they will now attempt to capture the conference title before setting their sights on state championship aspirations.

"We’ve been tested all season," McCaffrey said. "Every big game, every loss, every win—it's all been a lesson. We’ve grown stronger from it. Now, it’s time to go out and prove we belong at the top."

Springfield enters the conference tournament as the No. 2 seed, looking to extend their winning streak and solidify their case as the best team in the state. With Easley, McCaffrey, and now a surging supporting cast, the Eagles are more dangerous than ever, and every team in the bracket knows it.

The stage is set, the momentum is rolling, and Springfield is ready for the postseason fight ahead.
