SPRINGFIELD, IL – The fifth-ranked O.S. Springfield Eagles continued their dominance, securing their 12th consecutive victory with a 63-57 win over Mount Zion on Thursday night. Conor McCaffrey delivered yet another elite performance, recording 27 points and 10 assists, while Jace Easley finished with 23 points, stepping up in the second half to seal the win.
The victory improved Springfield to 26-5 overall (11-3 LSA), keeping them in strong contention for the top conference spot as the regular season winds down.
McCaffrey was once again the heartbeat of Springfield’s offense, notching his 31st double-double of the season. He set the tone early, orchestrating the offense and picking apart Mount Zion’s defense with precision passing and scoring efficiency.
“Conor and Jace both had great nights, as the stats show,” O.S. head coach Phillip Heppe said. “They were both so efficient, too.”
While McCaffrey dictated the tempo early, Easley’s second-half explosion was the defining moment of the game.
The LSA Player of the Year candidate had just nine points at halftime, choosing to facilitate and involve his teammates. But when the game tightened late, Easley took over, scoring 14 second-half points to ice the game.
“I’m a winner, and I look for the win at the end of the day,” Easley said. “My closing instincts just took over. Some nights, I don’t have to score 30 points for us to win.”
Coming off an emotional 67-62 overtime battle against Mount Pulaski last week, the Eagles needed a solid performance against an unranked opponent before a grueling stretch of road games.
Despite a late push from Mount Zion, Springfield remained in control, allowing bench players to gain valuable experience—something that could prove critical with three road games looming.
With their 12-game win streak intact, the Eagles are now setting their sights on tougher competition ahead, with every game crucial as the postseason nears.
