SUMMER '18 GAME OF THE WEEK HIGHLIGHT (WEEK ONE)

The first week has presented us with a rivalry matchup. Vancity and Holy Cross went head to toe on Saturday,
Holy Cross asserted their dominance from the very beginning of the game to the very end. One of the players that
proved to have been a valuable asset is Aaron De'Java. A highly recruited Point Guard who is a Saint-Mary's University recruit
from Iowa.

Aaron De'Java scored a record breaking 59 points against Vancity as was clearly the leading scorer for the team that afternoon.
However, the lack of real ball movement during the game was concerning and became increasingly evident as the game proceeded.
De'Java looked like he was doing most of the scoring and he didn't have any real interest in moving the ball around and passing it
around to other players.

Chaddick Oyiakwan is Holy Cross's pure playmaker however is playing the starting two guard. This is very questionable as De'Java is
a lethal scorer and more of a scorer. Chaddick is a pure playmaker, a point guard, facilitator on the court. He dished out thirteen amazing dimes to De'Java and allowed him to be more efficient in the perimeter, paint, and mid-range.

Vancity's defense was for the most part stellar, their defense against the other four players on the floor were great which left De'Java to
do most of the work scoring. The defense on De'Java proved to be extremely weak and left starting point guard of Vancity, Daniel Lee vulnerable for the most part of the game. His small height proved to be a difficulty in guarding the 6'4" point guard.

The offensive gameplan that Vancity laid out was pretty solid. Their starting point guard, Daniel Lee laid out a perfect foundation for their starting two and three players. Akaeno Montaguan, the small forward from Burnaby North Secondary played his heart out with 27 points,
however his work was not enough. Lee's excellent IQ, court-smarts, and passing led to easy transition points and allowed Vancity to stay
in the game for the majority of the game. Lee presents a decent motor, high-IQ, and could blossom into an excellent "Chris Paul" type player if he were to work on polishing his game more, and lay out a few more inches in height.

Roman Dawson, the starting 2 guard played excellent, he has the best shooting stroke I have seen in a long time. Every single time Dawson would release the ball from his finger tips, the whole crowd would rise to their feet and expect it to go straight in. He's field-goal-percentage is through the roof and displays excellent agility and speed. It's a concern that Dawson is not properly being used in the gameplan as his contribution offensively is extremely cruical.

1ST HALF HIGHLIGHTS
Vancity started out very strong in the first quarter of the game, they clearly had the momentum and dominated Holy Cross in the paint. Dawson was also able to contribute by scoring from the perimeter which left the defense stumbling for clues to stop them. The perfect gameplan allowed Vancity to a quick start, the majority of Holy Cross's turnovers came from the first quarter. Vancity ended the quarter
11-5 and they clearly were confident they had the momentum.

Thing's took a tumbling fall in the second quarter, De'Java started to get hot from the perimeter and it fueled him to take leaps down into
the mid-range and paint. Lee's defense in the perimeter is pretty good, however his size and height forbids him from any post-defense. De'Java also shows excellent agility and speed, he was able to blow by Lee in several occasions. With De'Java's rapid scoring came Vancity's breakdown. They were stumbling on the court, gave up easy breaks in transition, easy buckets, and easy points. De'Java and Holy Cross were able to trim the lead by a 12-0 run in the second quarter which left Rob Cassidy, coach of Vancity with utter shock. Holy Cross led after the second quarter by 8.

2ND HALF HIGHLIGHTS
Vancity's situation did not get any better. De'Java was hot from the perimeter, the mid-range and the paint. He was able to blow by the double and triple teams. The gameplan was clearly built around De'Java for the second half, and they wanted to utilize him as much as possible for the rest of the game. De'Java's field-goal percentage was high for the amount of shots he took. He scored 70% from the field by the end of the third quarter.

De'Java's field-goal percentage took a tumble in the last quarter of the game. Vancity gained a bit of energy during the final three minute mark of the game, Montaguan strived to getting back into the game with the score being 58 to 50 in favor of Holy Cross. Montaguan led Vancity to a 8-2 run however time was not in Vancity's side as they quickly ran out of time.

Final
Holy Cross 63 | Vancity 56
Vancity and Holy Cross have played 4 times this year, and now the season series is tied 2-2 with this final game.
We hope to see these two teams battle it out even harder as the season progresses. We hope to see improved defense from Vancity
and better ball movement from Holy Cross. These pointers are very cruical for a more successful game from both teams.
