Welcome readers to our pilot pregame article at New World Prep Charter School. Tomorrow is a big day for the NWP basketball team as they are going against some heavy competition in I.S 72. The game will be at the Port Richmond CYO center located at 120 Anderson Ave. Students are allowed to attend this much anticipated home game at 4:15. During the Pumas last game, the score was tight as the final score was 26-30. A very close game for our Pumas. When we interviewed Coach Rucker he said, “The opponents played tough and that the odds were even. The game was up for grabs.” One of our new Pumas, Matthew Velazquez, said, “The game was good and that the team needs to improve on scoring. We shot a low percentage.” Currently Coach Rucker stated that there are no injured players as of right now and that Tyshawn Bent is back from playing football in Florida and is now ready to help on the basketball court.
Last game, Devan Matos, the team's leading scorer, scored fourteen points, Ibrahim Ibrahim scored the first points of the game with a big three, Keanu Lowe added two points, Matthew Velazquez scored one and Xavier Moreno contributed five points. Currently the team is practicing for their game tomorrow. They are running drills like layups, shooting, and running scrimmages.
We are looking forward to seeing the boys’ use their skills that they are practicing currently in their game against I.S 72 at CYO tomorrow. When you see them make sure to wish them luck for their game. LETS GO PUMAS!!!!!
