At Mount Zion on Saturday the opening weekend of High School indoor track has offically started and Cahokia High School came away with a close victory over Effingham, while Champaign Central and Taylorville round out the top four, as the only team from 1A Springfield Lutheran shined and put the pressure against the Lincoln Railsplitters, while Pekin and Mount Zion severly underpreform, and more...

Springfield Lutheran 59 points, 8th place out of 20.
Sophmore Ainsley Johnson was forced to re-run the 60m after a time malfunction, but that didn't stop her from winning the 60m and coming in 2nd in the 200m. Johnson flew down the track in 7.72 seconds a personal PR, but it was called back, and she claimed first place with an 8.01.

Senior Conor McCaffrey held off Lincoln senior's Luke Jones and Ben Crombie on the final lap for a event changing much needed Springfield Lutheran victory that gave them 10 points. Just 20 minutes later, McCaffrey placed 7th of 28 in the 800m, getting Lutheran another 3 points.

Senior Miles Kauffman picked up 6 points for the Crusaders in the Long Jump, but scratched his running events.

Sophmore Myles Williams finished 3rd in the 60m and 6th in the 200m picking up a solid 12 points for Lutheran.

Freshmen Jeramy Daniel and Silas Armbrust were impressive. Daniel picked up 3rd in the triple-jump while Armbrust grabbed 6th place. Armbrust would get 5th place in the long jump, while also flying past Noah Flaig and Elliott Frisible to pick up 6th place in the 400m. Jeramy Daniel finished 10th in the 800m just 6 seconds behind fellow Senior teammate Conor McCaffrey.

Takeaways
Springfield Lutheran lost their best ever track athlete in school history and potentially got better? Ainsley Johnson and Conor McCaffrey are going to get Lutheran points, Kauffmann and Williams are going to win a lot of 1A sprints, while freshmen Jeramy Daniel and Silas Armbrust combined for 19 of the Lutheran 59 points in a 3A meet. Lutheran sent 6 runners to the meet and claimed 8th place of 20 and could have potentially snuck past Pleasant Plains if Miles Kauffmann didn't scratch his 60m and 400m.

Lutheran looks primed to make another deep state run as they look to improve on their 8th place state finish last year and win the MSM Conference for the 4th straight year.
