Can anybody dethrone Clark Brueckl and Team Heavy Glaze? Brueckl has only one blemish on his 2 year Winter League career by way of a buzzer beater from Joey Ingrando III back in January of 2024. Off to a perfect 5-0 start, it looks like the JDL's Thanos is unstoppable yet again. Nearly averaging a double double for Heavy Glaze (22.6p, 9.6r), teammates Ahmet Merzihic and Brandon Camacho seem to be backing up their captain combining for an additional 29 ppg and 14rpg. Team Glaze has their hands full this week as little bro and long time rival, Jay Brueckl trys his luck at defeating big bro. Jay comes into the week 6 matchup leading the enitre Winter League in assist per game (6.6) and is helped by the dynamic Hakeem Dobbins who is averaging just shy of 24 ppg. Expect some good banter out of this Week 6 opener.
Team Cordone is RED HOT coming off a 90 point team effort. There's not a hotter player in the league right now than TC. Trent comes into week 6 after scoring a week high 47 points. That's not even the craziest part. In Team Cordone's week 5 victory, Forward Nick Reeb posted his first career triple double (18p, 17r, 11a) and had 5 steals to go with it. But wait, theres more! The Big Cat, Derek Dorr, is an absoulte vaccuum on the boards. 56 total rebounds through 4 games and averaging a 14 and 14 statline will certainly help any team win games. Team Cordone has a tune up game vs 1-4 Blessed to Ball. Blessed is coming off its first win behind the 3 point shooting of perrenial leage favorite Putt Brown and Mr Windmill himself, Lamont Pulliam. JMG made the move to bring in Mike Bass (19ppg) to help on the offensive end of things. Expect lots of points in this one.
He's been the leagues most dominant force with the rock in his hands. Forward Justin Allen of Hennything is Possible is easily the favorite for MVP through 5 weeks of play. In 4 games played, Justin has scored 51, 27, 36, and 39 for a total of 153 points. HIP is coming off a fantastic win against Live and Die in what was truly a winter league classic. If HIP wants put their stamp amongst the leagues best, they'll have to do it this week against team LeBron James. Jack Bickerstaff and Jeriah Williams will look to slow down the dominant Allen by controlling the pace and making the most of their opportunities.
It's rare a team loses a game when scoring 72 points and having player go for 33. What's even more rare is scoring more 3 point field goals than 2 point field goals and that's exactly what team HAM did last week against FKAUD. You blinked once when this game was tipped and next thing you know** Al Hiam** and team HAM were out to a 21-3 lead with 16 minutes left in the first half. Hiam (35p, 8 3s) and Jack Bernstein (28p, 4 3s) took no prisoners in dismantling FKAUD. HAM comes into Week 6 in second place due to a close loss against Heavy Glaze a few weeks prior (games still under protest). What's on the menu for HAM? A hefty plate of Noah Grabar and Double Nickels. In what was easily the game of the year so far in Week 5, Grabar (47p) fell one point shy in a double OT loss to Heavy Glaze. Expect Grabar to be even more hungry this week as that L last week is still leaving a sour taste in his mouth.
A few last minute things to think about as we head into week 6:
- No Diddy and Blazers both remain winless (0-5)
- 11 players out of 128 average more than 20 ppg, only 2 average more than 30 ppg
- Justin Allen has 153 total points and only 6 assist on the season.
- FKAUD has the most points scored as a team (375) and Heavy Glaze has given up the least amount of points scored as a team (300).
- There's still 5 week of Winter JDL left!
