The inaugural employee sponsored Wellness Delta Basketball League Summer Series (DBL SS) tipped off last night with the Comfort + team playing team Level up. The basketball games were full of team excitement and enthusiasm. The DBL SS teams consist of 55 players from nearly every division at Delta Air Lines. The experience levels range from beginners to college hoopers. The intent of the league is to promote being active, network, team build, and encourage employee retention! The league is unique because the captains are randomly selected from different divisions and the live draft allows all the teams to be evenly filled with players.

The league started play with two games at Forest Park Recreational Center, with Level Up winning over Comfort + and Sky Priority over First Class. Department 477 Joshua Fullerton who was a late add to Level Up scored 28 points in the first game and Department 499 Matt Magee finished the night with 32 points for Sky Priority. All the teams played exceptionally well, understanding that there were no pre-game practices. Special recognition goes out to Department 470 Tenece Mack, Ivoiree Sheffield and Jahnea Vega for volunteering. Their help allows the players to play the game seamlessly.

The games are played on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the next 7-weeks. The season ends with a single elimination tournament to crown the 2023 DBL SS Champions!
If you are interested in watching your fellow co-workers compete in exciting games of basketball, please join us. The games are played from 7:00pm – 9:00pm. In true Delta Air Line fashion to show our gratitude to the City of Forest Park for allowing us to rent their facilities, the DBL SS will be donating funds to help supply the City of Forest Park Community Center kids free school supplies. (To be specific the T-Shirt sales and a departmental fundraiser at TechOps to get the funding needed - My target will $2K.)
