We can build character and promote unity in basketball. This is what transpired from last year's Innauguration Global Filipino Basketball Tournament. A serious but undoubtedly fun shared by all who participated players, team managers, coaches and family and loved ones on the sidelines cheering on their Kuya's (older brother in Tagalog/Filipino), Tiyo or Tito (parent's male friend, affiliation of kin or Uncle). To add the competitive spirit lives in all of us, players and coaches drew up plays on how to execute their offense and tough defense. There are three division bracket that each team played in; All-American Division which is pretty much open to all basketball players 18 and on, All-Filipino Division provided two age brackets 30 plus and 40 plus brackets. Each team competed their heart's out to outplay the other team in their respective division. But there could only be one, A championship team which promises these traits; teamwork, trust, focus and strategy. Most Valuable Players were name respectively; Vince Camper II (iDesigns-Socalitc) named MVP All-American Open Division, Boy Valera (COBL All-Starz) played huge as well and took MVP All-Filipino 30 plus, Roger Aboy Cruz (Team Kanor) proved this division is no easy task without the help of his team mates and of course, he took home MVP All-Filipino 40 plus. Runner-ups were (All-American) Team Sharks/Sneakerheads, Team Manager: Joe Fermalino, (All-Filipino 40 plus) Team GOVILAM headed by Bing Patino and Co. and (All-Filipino 30 plus) LBC-La Salle headed by Coo Coo Coruna and Jong Ledesma. All teams had a good time playing with and competed like no other has ever seen like Mixed Nutz, Red Claws- CFC,Balleros, local brand 360 Brazillian Mist, Balleros, and Letran U.S.A. Alumni. This is one of the, if not good, best basketball memory to remember. Let's look forward to another great tournament on October 8th!
