SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- - Jace Easley had 29 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Conor McCaffrey added 24 points and 13 assists, while Our Savior's shot 58% from the field to beat Christ the King 63-48 on Sunday night in a non-conference matchup.
Jeremiah Perkins brought in 8 points for the Eagles (4-1), who jumped to a 14-2 lead and never looked back to regroup from last weeks's lost to Immanuel Seymour.
"We had a lot of time, a lot of preparation to get better and we went hard," Easley said. "We did what good programs are supposed to do: bounce back."
The Eagles led by 14 at halftime and didn't let the margin slip below double figures, handing Christ the King their second straight nonconference home loss in a week while playing without their famously hostile home gym, where most of the fans were quiet, in shock of how the Eagles kept CTK off their rhythm.
Our Savior's led by 19 points early in the second half, aided by an outside shooting effort that had the Eagles make 7 of 11 3-pointers -- including 6 of 8 in the first half as they took control.
Paul Hartman scored 19 points to lead CTK (2-2) who shot 40% and made 5 of 22 3-pointers.
"We got beat by a team that's better than we are and older, more mature," CTK coach Mike Hartman said, "and they kind of imposed their will on us. ... We're not there yet. We've got a lot to learn."
BIG PICTURE
Our Savior's: The Eagles were coming off last week's loss to Immanuel Seymour in Champaign, then they had a home game canceled against Mount Pulaski. Our Savior's had lost 11 of 13 road matchups against preseason top-10 teams in Illinois, with both of those wins coming from the 2015 Eagles team that placed 8th in Nationals. The Eagles had little trouble in this one, with Conor McCaffrey hitting three early 3s to help Our Savior's take over quickly on the way to having multiple players contribute on the defensive end.
"We never got the pedal all the way too the floor because of some turnovers," Our Savior's coach Phillip Heppe said. "But all in all, I felt great about this."
Christ the King: Both of their losses this year have come against a highly ranked LSA opponent, the first coming December 1st against Bethel Morton in the Champions Classic. Christ the King struggled to generate consistent offense Friday and missed their first 12 3-pointers.
