10:00 a.m. Texas Longhorns vs Jackson State Tigers
I think it’s safe to say that this is an important game for both squads. For Texas, Shelton and company acquired four-star point guard James Kelley who is one of the best complimentary players in the league today. Looking forward to Carrington Love to make his debut this Saturday. This couldn’t have come at a better time as Texas looks to stay on the winning side against Jackson State. If Texas can mimic last week performance with playing with high energy on both ends, sharing the ball by making the extra pass, and shooting the ball efficiently this can very well be a great win for Texas. As for the Jackson State Tigers, this squad needs to play with two components more frequently “ENERGY” and “IQ”. Jackson State are in their own way for the most. I believe they have more than enough to be a successful team. If they can figure it out as a unit, I believe they will get the win. They must learn to play for each other, and not in a selfish matter. I don’t think they can afford to go another week with their guards being so ball dominant and not involving the bigs enough throughout the duration of the game although Javion, Melvin, Leland, and Marcus are solid guards. Jackson State has no identity right now and that’s apparent but still will be a tough cover for Texas.
Bottom Line: Jackson State wins by 4+
11:00 a.m. Oregon Ducks vs UW-Milwaukee Panthers
This is going to be a matchup where one team is feeling good to get the win meanwhile the other team will be left clueless with a loss and possibly looking to making some roster adjustments soon. For UW-Milwaukee, nothing boosts a team moral than winning. The panthers have some young talent to work with but lacks leadership. UW-Milwaukee also lacks team identity. Tajhe Johnson will need to be more assertive with his play making and scoring abilities. The guards will have to take care of the ball by limiting their turnovers, for the simple fact that Oregon forces a good number of turnovers. Look for wings Chris, Rodney and Malcolm to do much of the dirty work and clean up around the rim as UW-Milwaukee lacks a true center. This is a matchup that favors Oregon in the sense that they have more athleticism on the front court that can become a nightmare for UW-Milwaukee. If Josh and Jarrod are in attendance on Saturday, this should make things easier for Oregon to execute on both ends. Oregon guards must execute better in the half court and limit the 2nd chance possessions which hurt them greatly last week.
Bottom Line: Oregon wins by 7+
12:00 p.m. Marquette Golden Eagles vs Wisconsin Badgers
The tales of the winless baby!!! I’m sure I didn’t expect to see both squads get off to a 0-2 start. Both teams play at a high pace, although I think Wisconsin could benefit from playing in the half court opposed to rushed possessions. Ant Thomas coming off a 30-point performance last week will need to almost reciprocate that performance. CJ Jefferson must be better in the scoring column. This team cannot afford for CJ to score less than 15 points a game. With Shareef and David out, Wisconsin will rely heavily on Stavon and Darvell to carry a bulk of the scoring load. As for Marquette, CJ and Ant Thomas are primetime baby, I’m looking forward to seeing whose going to step up from the supporting cast. Wisconsin has to limit their turnovers, and limit Marquette’s transition opportunities.
Bottom Line: Marquette wins by 6+
1:00 p.m. Cincinnati Bearcats vs UCLA Bruins G.T.O.W.
This is another matchup I’m looking forward to baby!!!!! There will nothing but trifecta from raining from the ceiling from the hot shooting guards from both sides baby!!!! Matt Mire and Duck will have to exhaust all their energy on both ends. Look for both guards to be up for the challenge. Keontae and Dio have been box-office must-see baby!!!!!! They will also have their hands full with the two best shooters in the league baby in Duck Patterson and Matt Mire. I believe the guards will cancel each other out. It comes down to two things, both X factors in Silas Harris for UCLA and Equan Ards for Cincinnati. One advantage that Cincinnati has over everyone else in the league is their twin towers in Deandre and Terrance. Both bigs can guard multiple positions, finish around the rim well, and defend with intensity. Damon Smith will have his hands full with battling between both bigs, but he has also have a few advantages of his own which are his play making skills, and his basketball IQ. UCLA guard must control tempo of the game if he does so then UCLA has a great chance of winning. Team Cincinnati must continue playing with aggression and continue hackling opponents on the defensive end. Look for this game to be in the 60s at least.
Bottom Line: Cincinnati Bearcats wins by -3.0
2:00 p.m. Southwest Missouri vs Carroll College-G.O.T.W.
Look for this to be a nail bitter baby, if both squads are fully strengthened. Southwest Missouri has my attention, with their face paced, and defensive tenacity. Southwest has gotten the job with their guards and wings and no true big just yet. Led by guards Brian Bearden and Marquese Kobe Burks baby who are both primetime baby!!!!! Having no big can hurt Southwest against Carroll College as they are a team that rebounds the ball well and can score in the paint well also. Can Haki and Mitchell keep things rolling this week? Both are volume shooters that can heat up at any moment we witnessed this duo put on a absolute show late 2nd half. The key for Southwest will be to run off their shooters and turn them into drivers. Meanwhile Carroll College will need to force Southwest Missouri to make irrational decisions baby due to the team lacking a true point guard. Expect to be a grudge match baby! Southwest Missouri is the highest scoring team in the league and the best defensive team in the league.
Bottom Line: Southwest Missouri wins by -5
