Game Recap: 5/30/2025
An attention-worthy battle unfolded at Ashland Fieldhouse today, with the New York Bricks barely prevailing over the Los Angeles Fakers at 13 to 12. It would be safe to say that shooting didn't come easy in this game. The Average Shooting Percentage for just this game was 20%. But depsite this, both teams tallied 6 field goal makes, including one 3-pointer made by the Bricks. There were no free throws in the game, the only foul was a personal committed by the Fakers. Rebounding was tight, with the Bricks prevailing 20 to 18. On top of that, the Fakers had more turnovers, 16 to 11. However, the Fakers did tally the one and only assist of the game. With both teams having 10 steals, it was blocking where the Bricks once again showed superiority. By out-blocking the Fakers 4 to 1, the Bricks were able to bring home a comforting victory to put their record up to 4-1, putting the Fakers in a seemingly insurmountable hole.
The Bricks needed someone to fuel their offense to win this game. Today, it was Carlton. Carlton, who is looking to make a final push to challenge MVP-title favorite Darcy with some stellar performances, didn't dissapoint today. With his second consecutive game of tallying 8 points, Carlton's consistent 33% shooting carried his team over the finish line. But it wasn't just shooting where Carlton shone. He pitched in a game-high 8 rebounds, a game-high 5 steals, and Orlando and Carlton both tallied a game-high 2 blocks. Speaking of Orlando, his shooting undoubtedly hurt the Bricks offense. In his career-worst game, he shot 9% from the field and couldn't grab a single rebound or pass a single assist. His slim stat line was aided only by 1 steal and 2 blocks. But if there's one player who's making it onto the highlight reel, it's Brandt. His 30-foot off-the-glass dagger 3 gave the Bricks all they needed to put the Fakers away in the end-game. Collectively, Brandt shot 1-for-2 and grabbed 3 rebounds plus a steal. This performance will serve Brandt well as he competes for the 6th Man of the Year award. Other than that, Cade had a quiet game, shooting a dull 0-for-3. Jake followed suit going 0-for-2.
Switching gears, the Fakers, who are likely going to regret the outcome of this game for a while, struggled in most categories. Darcy shot an unfortunate 1-for-8 with only 3 rebounds when his team needed him most. Chet, however, put on a decent show, going 2-for-6 with 7 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 forced turnovers, and an assist. Chet showcased his true defensive and rebounding capabilities, without completely taking over the game. Nolan struggled with the ball in a critical way during today's game. By committing a game-high 8 turnovers and 4 bad passes, Nolan shot 2-for-7 and the Fakers struggled to maintain offensive consistency. Zach also shot 1-for-8, and getting blocked twice shows Zach's vulnerability to the stifling defense of the Bricks. Arlo and Gaius, who also subbed in for the Fakers, tallied a collective 0 points, 1 steal, and 2 rebounds. Despite making a remarkable comeback effort late in the game, the Fakers were unable to convert in the final minutes, resulting in what could be their Waterloo for the season.
The way the Bricks have showcased truly clutch performances, and won games in the final minutes has been inspiring. Despite suffering with injuries, and a +/- of -3, the Bricks have been able to hold off a Faker offense which was predicted to out-pace the Bricks from the beginning. But a bigger question looms ahead: Will Darcy or Carlton win the tight MVP race?
Statistics shown are drawn from the latest records of Play-By-Play data confirmed through game footage.
