Game Recap: 5/30/2025
An incredible back-and-forth game unfolded at Ashland Fieldhouse today between the New York Bricks and the Los Angeles Fakers. The New York Bricks, carried by Carlton, and the Los Angeles Fakers, carried by Darcy, both ended up in a suspenseful draw at a final score of 17 to 17. Both teams tallied 8 field goal makes, with the Bricks having one 3-pointer. The Fakers also had one free throw make, the only free throw make of the game. The Bricks out-rebounded the Fakers for the second consecutive game; 22 to 18. More surprisingly, this happened dspite the Fakers having Darcy, the leagues best rebounder, on the floor for a majority of the game. The Bricks had more turnovers and less assists than the Fakers, but not surprisingly, the Bricks made up for it by once again out-blocking the Fakers. Fouls and steals were perfectly even, showing the tightness of this game. The tightness and closely matched offenses and defenses of the Fakers and the Bricks resulted in the first tie game in ABL history.
The Fakers put up some numbers, and showed some excellent team-work in this game, but a few team members struggled to pitch in. On the good side, Darcy, who by far led the way in scoring for the Fakers, put up another MVP calibre stat line at 8-6-0-1-0 in his eleven and a half minutes of play, while shooting 36% from the floor. Zach played right-hand-man for Darcy, throwing in 2 points on 1-for-3 shooting with 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. But that's about where the decent performances end. Chet went 0-for-5, and Max went 1-for-8 on shooting. Both Chet and Max also had a turnover. But Rocky struggled even further for the second consecutive game. He did shoot 1-for-3, but committed a whopping 5 turnovers plus a foul.
The Bricks, on the other hand, stuck to their core players. The Cade-Carlton-Orlando trio did all the scoring for the bricks. Carlton roared to life with 8 points on 33% shooting, while Cade pitched in 4 points, and Orlando put in 5 points. However, Cade and Orlando struggled with accracy. Cade went 2-for-7, and Orlando went 2-for-9. The trio combined for 13 rebounds, 2 assists, 5 steals, and a block, making their performance the best trio perfomance in ABL history. Jake added 3 turnovers, but did get a rebound and a block. Ashton, despite grabbing 8 rebounds, had his career-worst game. He committed a career high 4 turnovers and a career high 2 fouls. He didn't add any assists to aid his stat line.
The Fakers needed to make a run to prevent their record from going to 1-4. Today, they escaped Ashland Fieldhouse alive, making it out with nothing but a draw to show for it. Our next game on June 2nd will show us if the Fakers can bring home a win. Will the Faker's continue this struggle or come roaring back from their season deficit?
