🏀🍁Fall Season Registration

Next Season is starting soon! August 19th to October 21

We’re happy to welcome back so many players from previous seasons along with a lot of new blood.

🏟️About the League:
Colosseum is a league created by players FOR the players. Management and scorekeepers are all other players that help run the league. This league should feel different than most city rec leagues.

Instead of tracking down 7 to 8 other guys to play with you, all players sign up as individuals to be drafted to various teams within the division you choose. This is done to split up height and skill to make sure every game is fun and competitive.

There will be two divisions of the same league, you can enter the one that is closer or works better for your schedule. Or if you want even more games this fall you can sign up to be on a team in both divisions.

🔴WEST DIVISION - Thursdays at the Phhacility in Tempe/Phoenix from 7:00p-10p

🔵EAST DIVISION - Saturdays at Legacy Sports Complex in Mesa from 7:00p-10p

We’ll have 6-7 teams in the East division and 4-5 teams in the West division.

You will get 7 regular season games including one game in the other division and one night with back to back games.

Single elimination playoffs to crown the top team of each division, then they’ll play in the finals the following Thursday at the Phhacility, unless there are any weekday schedule conflicts for the remaining two teams.

Finals night, there will be an exhibition game after so the eliminated teams can watch the championship game and get some extra play time, it's included in the registration fee so don't forget to cash it in and come play.

🏀Gameplay:
Every game is 40 minutes long, 4 10 min quarters. Game clock runs the whole time except for final minute (or two) of a quarter and timeouts. Automatic points are given when fouled in the act of shooting until the last minute (or two) of each quarter as long as it’s a 10 point game or less. When in crunch time, 24 second shot clock is activated and free throws shots will be taken when fouled.

-High School 3 point Line
-5 fouls per game, 6 in the playoffs.
-1 Timeout per half, timeouts advance the ball.
-2 min overtime and double overtime

Unless specified, all other rules default to high school.

👥Team setup:
The number one priority is to have fun, competitive games. No team enjoys a blowout. Each season, games stay competitive because the league or captains split up teams based on height and skill level. When you sign up you can request to be with certain friends but is not guaranteed unless it is your first season with us. After that we ask you to be flexible and enjoy playing with different guys around the league.

There will be 4-8 teams in each division so as long as you and a friend are in same division, trades could be made to pair you guys if captains missed someone’s preference.

Captains from last season will use last seasons team as a starting point and arrange teams from there based on last seasons standings. If you did not play last season that is fine, you will be drafted to one of those teams or a newly formed team.

With this format teams can switch up occasionally to even out the competition and different guys can win championships each season but we'll also keep enough of the core together to maintain continuity and remove any learning curve with your squad.

🗣️Player Conduct:
In the two years of running this league we have created a community of hoopers. Be respectful to the refs and other players around the league on or off your team.

There is ZERO TOLERANCE ON FIGHTING with refs or other players. We all have work and other stresses in our lives, these officiated games are the chance to reward yourself and get away from that stress.

If you have an issue with a call by a ref, you can talk to them for clarification. On any level of basketball, yelling at a ref will never reverse a call. These officials are human and might miss calls just like you’ll definitely miss embarrassingly easy shots. It is not an easy job, so you may need to cut them some slack. At the same time we do watch officials closely and the ones that do a great job stick around.

If you ruin the fun atmosphere for others then you won’t be invited back. All games are monitored and recorded, if you have a physical altercation with any player, official, staff or spectator; you will be removed from the league without refund. We also don’t care who starts it, we’re grown men and we expect you to manage your emotions like an adult.

Our last two seasons have been a lot of fun, the guys have been great, games have been great and overtime games were required for advancing teams to make it to the finals. We love close games that either team can win. The right personnel makes all the difference and if you’ve played with us before we thank you all for making this league what it is.

📆Schedule and Important Dates:
Saturday August 12th we will have an open gym from 8p-9:30p. We will run rapid fire timed games to help get back into game shape. Games will be played on 1 or 2 courts with officials. If enough sign up we will add extra courts so everyone gets a lot of play time.

Invite everyone you know, this is not exclusive to players in the league.

Saturday July 30th - REGISTRATION DEADLINE

First of August - Teams will begin to be formed, we may not have final teams until later in the week, then teams will be announced that week.

Trade Deadline - After teams are announced you will have 24 hours to make a request to pair up with someone specific that captains missed. We ask that you first try to be ok with the teams arranged because captains have prepared their teams with you in mind so try it out even if you have to play against your friends (which can be more fun anyways). Making those final trades will be reserved only for situations where it's more of a necessity to be together rather than a preference. If it's your first season playing with us we will make sure you are with the people you specify during registration.

Saturday August 19th East Division Starts
Tuesday or Thursday August 22nd West Division Starts
All Games in October will be playoff games.
Finals depend on final two teams schedules, whichever night works for the most players on both remaining teams.

💸Price:
Price includes 7 season games in 6-7 weeks, and at least one playoff game after that. Price also includes jersey rental provided for you and your team. Jerseys are to be returned at the end of the season unless returning for our Winter season. We'll try to keep teams mostly the same once again, continuity will help teams get better over time. Game to game stats are provided for all players and will be posted on this site. Game scores and occasional individual performances will be posted to our Instagram page. We will award Suns tickets to the team that wins the Fall Season. In a nearby future season we will be doing our playoffs at the Suns arena.

East and West Divisions each cost $120 ($110 if you pay before the 29th)

If you do both Divisions it is $210 and you’ll get drafted to a team in each division. There may be a schedule conflict with your teams playing each other, if that’s the case play with the team with less bodies. If you sign up for both you’ll play regular season games and at least two playoff games in two months and you’ll double your chances at a championship.

🏆

Thank you for being a part of this league, we’re really excited to kick off this new season, sounds like we could have two more teams than last season. So keep recruiting friends from work or the gym and bring them out to play.

If you have any questions after reading everything above, feel free to reach out to Commissioner Ben at 480-710-8608

Sign up now before registration closes, signing up after Aug 4th will be too late. Today is the Deadline!!

See you on the court!

Either Tuesday or Thursdays at the Phhacility in Tempe/Phoenix or Saturdays at Legacy in Mesa

Captains will pick their teams so placement is not guaranteed. Trades can be made if there’s a certain need that isn’t met. If you’re returning would you like to stay with most your team or be released into free agency and sign with another team.
Captains draft teams from players in their division and are expected to play more than just the current season. They'll also be in charge of passing out and collecting jerseys.
Almost every week you would either stay later or arrive early to help run score for an adjacent game to yours. Your games would be scheduled before the season started.
I understand that the jersey is to be returned at the end of my season and will turn it back into the league even if I miss the last night of my season. Type "I agree"
I understand that basketball is an active sport where injuries can happen. If I roll my ankle or anything then Colosseum Basketball League, Legacy Park or the Phhacility are not liable for my injuries. Type "I agree"
I understand that I am not to fight/argue with any refs or other players in the league. We’re all grown men that have enough stress going on in our lives, basketball is supposed to be our chance to relieve that stress. If you get in any type of physical altercation you will be removed without a refund. Type "I agree"
To help plan future seasons, when is the best time for games. Saturday Morning, Saturday night? A week night? List out all the nights you would be available going forward. S M T W TH F SA
Dunk League! Would you be interested in a league with 8.5 foot rims? It would be shorter games and a shorter season and most likely with 3 other guys from your regular team for jersey matching purposes. We'll start with some pick up games for those interested to see how everyone like it.
We are working on a deal to play at the Suns arena again, we can play games at the arena when we collectively buy enough tickets to Suns games. We will set up a unique link for this and anytime somebody uses that link, it will help us play at the Suns arena. Hoping to do this in our Winter and Spring Seasons. BUT the big question is, if we had our link created, how many Suns tickets do you think you would be able to do a year? It wouldn't be mandatory, just looking to see how many people would buy tickets through the league.
Do you have any talents you'd like to volunteer to help the league with? We always could use help with league management, graphic design, photography, video, uploading stats, officiating or even pushing buttons for the scoreboard.
Any feedback moving forward? This season we are fixing the team sizes so you most likely never have more than 8 players but with the "half roster" players, that will help allow teams to have subs in place as back ups so teams don't forfeit with less than 5 players. Also we are keeping games on the nights you sign up for save for one travel game of the season where you'll play against the other division. All other games will be at the location you sign up for. 4 quarters seemed like a welcome change so we'll continue to do quarters over halves. Any other things that should be addressed to make game play or the league better?
