Brandgenuity 51, Sherwood Lumber 36
Despite missing four players, Brandgenuity picked up their second win of the season against Sherwood Lumber.
It appeared to be Sherwood’s game to lose in the early goings, as they jumped to a nice double-digit lead in the first 10 minutes. Unfortunately for them, it was indeed their game to lose, and lose it they did, forfeiting the lead shortly before halftime.
Harlan Reiss led Brandgenuity with 18 points to go along with nine rebounds, one assist and two steals. Nate Schoeffler added six points and eight rebounds as well.
Injuries have plagued Sherwood throughout the season, but captain Yoni Goldstein was still optimistic about his team’s chances moving forward.
“We lead the league in last names that are also places,” Goldstein said. “Moskow, Paris, you name it. So we’re going to try to use that to our advantage somehow.”
Goldstein and Max Geller led Sherwood with 10 points each, and Jake Fischer added nine points.
The loss drops Sherwood to 2-4, while Brandgenuity improves to 2-4.
Hugh Pollack 45, Bogrim '98 36
Hugh Pollack defeated Bogrim '98 by a score of 45-36, moving their record to .500 on the season. Bogrim managed to extend their winless streak to six.
The game was close through the first half, with both teams using the classic RBA strategy of going minutes at a time without scoring. "All those finger stretches for nothing," remarked Ian Cutler, the scoreboard operator for the game.
Pollack picked up the pace in the second though, pouring in point after point to pull away from their opponent. "Pretty sure we previewed a potential pennant run," said multiple Pollack players, all of whom also thanked the patrons who came to watch at "The 'Piers."
Next up for each team: Hugh Pollack will try to deliver another punch to the teeth to Glasenglitter, while Bogrim '98 will look to give a real etgar to Elite Pets.
Pollectibles 44, Elite Pets 40
Elite Pets captain Matt Werner continued his league-leading six-game charge-drawing streak, but it wasn’t enough as the Pollectibles pollected (nice) their league-high fourth win in a row.
Pets led for the entirety of the first half, and went into the break up 26-17. Daniel Stecker paced the Pets with a game-high 17 points to go along with eight rebounds and three assists.
But it was the classic tale of two halves, with the Pollectibles outscoring the Pets 27-14 in the second period. Pollectibles guard David Immerman continued his campaign for most improved player, contributing 11 points and six rebounds. For the season, Immerman is averaging 14 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists.
“Next time I hit a big three I’m gonna hit ‘em with the ‘ol ‘Immy Shimmy,’” Immerman said.
Pollectibles center Simon Mendes credited his team’s win to the stellar defense of Steven Moser and Yoshi Gadasi. Captain Elan Kane agreed.
“Moser Rabbeinu is trying to bring us to the promised land,” Kane said. “There’s a reason we’re ending the season just before Passover.”
The win puts the Pollectibles into a three-way tie for first place at 5-1. Elite Pets falls to 2-4, in sixth place.
Glasenglitter 54, loadDepot 40
In a game that was closer than the final score indicates, Glasenglitter was able to defeat the previously undefeated loanDepot squad, to create a 3-way 5-1 tie atop the RBA standing as we head to the stretch run.
Glasenglitter had a full squad for the first time since opening night, and they seemed genuinely happy to see each other. Jon Epstein's signature full court defense helped to ignite a strong defensive effort from the purple-clad team, as they held loanDepot to sub-35% shooting from the field.
For loanDepot, they were lead in scoring by Jason Scheff, with 17 points including numerous tough shots just over defender's outstretched fingers. loanDepot had a tough game from the free-throw line, shooting just 2 of 11 from the charity stripe and left the team wondering 'what if'.
