Glasenglitter 51, Sherwood Lumber 40

After a back and forth first half that saw Sherwood Lumber enter halftime clinging to a 1 point lead, Glasenglitter pulled away in the 2nd half to coast to a eleven point win.

Glasenglitter had a balanced scoring attack on the evening, with Elichai Foger and Jeff Sohn each scoring 11 points, with 12 total free throws made among them, rewards for their repeated forays into the paint. With Foger and Sohn doing their work in the paint, Josh Wohl and Ari Sarna were able to connect from deep, each hitting 4 three-pointers for Glasenglitter, on their way to 14 and 13 points respectively. Facing off against his family’s company sponsored team, Aytan Goodman refused to hit a free throw, out of respect for his father.

In the loss for Lumber, they were led by Michael Paris and Max Geller, who each scored 10 points including 2 3-pointers made. Rookie Josh Moskow added 7 points and 6 rebounds to go along with some inspired defensive efforts for Sherwood. With the loss Sherwood falls to 2-2 on the season heading into a week 5 matchup with 2nd place Pollectibles.com.

Pollectibles 47, Hugh Pollack 38

Oh, brother. That’s what the Pollectibles were saying after forward Yoshi Gadasi agreed to allow his brother, Asaf “Omri Casspi” Gadasi, fresh off the plane from Israel and standing at a tall 6’3”, play as a sub in this heated battle. So despite missing EMG, Messing, Adam Goldfarb and their captain Yaniv Lusana, Hugh Pollack put up an honorable fight against the Pollectibles, but ultimately lost 47-38.

The Pollectibles took a quick 7-0 lead thanks to a couple trifectas from Simon Mendes, who finished with 11 points and nine rebounds. Pollack didn’t panic, though, and tied the game minutes later. The Pollectibles led at halftime by three, 25-22.

Pollect picked up the defense in the second half, allowing only 16 total points. As a team, Pollect dished out 12 assists, as guards Sam Marlowe and David Immerman cemented their place atop the league assist leaderboard in assists per game (5.5 and 3, respectively).

Pollack’s Sub 1, who asked to remain anonymous, grabbed (a somehow not league-high, see Ashley, Evan) 19 rebounds to go along with 13 points.

The win propels the Pollectibles to second place in the league with a 3-1 record. Pollack falls to 2-2, in fourth place.

loanDepot 53, Elite Pets 45

“Lol that can’t be right.” “Truly historic stuff.” “Will anybody box this guy out?” These were just a few of the comments RBA insiders were exclaiming after rookie Evan Ashley’s historic 27 (not a typo!) rebound night. Also his team won.

Matt Werner’s Elite Pets squad was winning most of the first half, but Depot’s Mitchell Silverman was on fire this game, scoring a career-high 21 points including four three-pointers.

Justin Cutler, who played for a league-high three teams Sunday night due to subbing and injury issues, switched teams midway as loanDepot could not buy a working Scheff hamstring (captain Matt and Rabbi Scheff both exited the game with hurt hamstrings).

“I actually placed a bet on Elite Pets before the game,” Cutler said. “So when I switched teams I was in a real pickle.”

Pets were led by Ben Schluger, who scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Rookie Jeremy Kelly added seven points, four rebounds and one steal for Pets too.

LoanDepot moves to 4-0 and is the only undefeated team remaining, while Elite Pets falls to 1-3.

Brandgenuity 64, Bogrim ‘98 52

In a high scoring for RBA affair, and matchup of previously winless teams, Brandgenuity came out on top thanks to a hot scoring evening from Harlan Reiss.

Reiss led the way for Brandgenuity with 25 points including 3 baskets from behind the line, to raise his average on the season to a league-leading 24.7. Team Captain Willie Stern chipped in 11 points of his own, to go along with 6 rebounds and a great job selecting subs as Subs 1 & 2 for Brandgenuity combined for 20 points on the evening. Nate Schoeffler continued his strong work on the ‘boards this season with 10 rebounds.

For Bogrim ‘98, they were unable to get the defensive stops needed to overcome Brandgenuity, despite some hot shooting from 3 team-wide, going 10 of 22 on the game. Dave Roberts led the team with 17 points on the evening and Jason Rozbruch and Alex Eisenstein chipped in 12 each in the loss. Bogrim 98 will look to get their first win of the season next week against the undefeated LoanDepot.
