Sherwood Lumber 51, Bogrim ‘98 48

In an intense back and forth battle, Sherwood Lumber hit shots when it mattered most and pulled away late from Bogrim 98, to move to 2-1 on the season, while Bogrim 98 dropped to 0-3.

It was a balanced team effort for Sherwood Lumber with 4 players each contributing between 9 and 14 points. Jake Fischer and Michael Paris each hit 3 shots from beyond the arc, and added in 7 rebounds and 6 rebounds respectively. David Sharon had a near double-double for Yoni Goldstein’s squad with 9 points and 8 rebounds.

In a losing effort for Bogrim ‘98, Dave Roberts led the way with a game-high 20 points to go along with 9 rebounds. Bert Tepper chipped in 8 points and 5 rebounds in his return from the Euroleague. Bogrim ‘98 struggled as a team from three point land shooting just 2 of 19 from deep. Sub 2 had a strong defensive game for Bogrim adding in 5 steals, all in anonymity.

Elite Pets 57, Brandgenuity 41

After some early season absences, Ben Schluger and Dan Stecker reunited on the hardwood and caused problems all night for Willie Stern’s Brandgenuity squad, outscoring the other team themselves, in a matchup of previously 0-2 teams.

Schluger led the way for Elite Pets with a monster 25 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists, including 9 of 11 from the charity stripe. Stecker added a not-quite-as-impressive-but-impressive-nonetheless line of 17 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks on the evening.

In the loss Ethan Coy paced Brandgenuity with 15 points and 4 assists. Brandgenuity had a tough time on the evening converting around the basket, shooting a teamwide 23% from the floor on the evening including 13% from 3. Rookie tandem Matan Mann and Daniel Rosenbaum added 11 rebounds and 10 rebounds respectively for Brangenuity as they will look to get their first win on the season next week against the league’s other winless team, Bogrim 98.

loanDepot 47, Hugh Pollack 38

Matt Scheff’s loanDepot led this game from the start and never looked back, defeating Yaniv Lusana’s Hugh Pollack team 47-38 to remain the only undefeated team in the league.

‘Depot was paced by the dynamic one-two punch of Jason Scheff and Jake Rimberg, who scored 24 and 10 points, respectively. Rookie Evan Ashley led ‘Depot with a whopping 15 boards. This was made all the more impressive by the fact that he was late to the game after watching the end of the Rams-Bucs playoff match, according to sources.

Pollack, meanwhile, had no answer for the zone defense run against them. Evan McCants-Goldman scored a team-high 15 points, followed by Justin Cutler and Danny Messing, who contributed seven points each. But it wasn’t enough as the team fell to 2-1.

“I wasn’t even at the game, why are you asking me for a quote,” texted captain Lusana.

Next up for loanDepot is a matchup with Elite Pets. Hugh Pollack will look to get back in the win column when they play the Pollectibles.

Pollectibles.com 45, Glasenglitter 42

It was a battle of the commissioners Sunday night, as Elan Kane’s Pollectibles took on Josh Wohl’s Glasenglitter squad (with Eli Grossman working from home). It was a tight contest, but ultimately the Pollectibles prevailed, 45-42.

The game was neck-and-neck for nearly all 44 minutes. A buzzer-beating three from Kane ended the first half with his team up 25-24.

The two teams traded leads throughout the second half, with big shots from Glasenglitter’s Ari Sarna and Pollectibles rookies Sam Hollenberg and Jonah Wolf. But two big free-throws from Pollectibles’ Sam Marlowe gave his team the 45-42 advantage they would never relinquish.

Josh Wohl led Glasenglitter with a team-high 15 points, but the Marlowe matched his efforts with an all-around statistical night, tallying 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

“It was a pain keeping stats tonight, I’ll say that,” said Elite Pets captain Matt Werner. “I wasn’t even supposed to be here, I was covering for someone. And then I couldn’t find a pen. And the scoreboard was acting up. Sorry, what was your question?”

With the win, Pollectibles move to 2-1 as they face Hugh Pollack next week. Glasenglitter falls to 2-1 and take on Sherwood Lumber.
