Pollectibles.com 63, Bogrim ’98 41

In a matchup of two new sponsors this year, Pollectibles.com defeated Bogrim ’98 63-41.

Despite missing Bert Tepper and Jacob GA, Bogrim got off to a fast start thanks to the shooting prowess of Dave Roberts, who shot 3-of-3 from three-point range to start the game. Roberts finished with a double-double, grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds and scoring a team-high 14 points.

“He’s a much better basketball player than the Dave Roberts who manages the Dodgers,” said first-year captain Ben Danitz.

But the Pollectibles were not deterred, and led at halftime 31-27. The team stepped up the defense in the second half, only allowing 14 points to Bogrim.

The Pollectibles were paced by Yoshi Gadasi, who scored a game-high 20 points, as well as David Immerman, who scored 14 points and dished out seven assists. As a team, the Pollectibles had 18 assists on 27 made baskets.

“I think the credit goes to the stat keepers on that one,” said Immerman, who is Co-Rosh Stats this season. “Assists are by far the hardest stat to remember to write down, and I think I assigned a great crew for this game.”

The stat keepers for the game were Jeff Sohn, Matt Werner and Tomer Langer.

The Pollectibles face loanDepot next week while Bogrim ’98 takes on Glasenglitter.

Glasenglitter 44, Elite Pets 33

Old friends? Or just plain old? That is the question GlaseNGlitter faces this season, and the early returns look more like the latter, than the former.

Facing Matt Werner’s Elite Pets squad, missing good friends, and all-around good guys Ben Schluger and Daniel Stecker (among others), GlaseN’ got out to a slow start, falling behind Elite Pets in the early going. Werner showcased both his coaching prowess, with a heady call to go zone against the Glitter Guys, and his shooting ability, hitting 4 three-pointers throughout the contest. Elite Pets combined for a total of seven baskets from behind the arc out of their 11 made shots overall, a stunningly high percentage even in today’s Steph Curry-influenced game. Another good sign for Elite Pets is that even with only five guys, they had nine steals and five blocks in the game, which bodes well for future contests when they have better attendance from their projected top scorers, to pair with an already impressive defense.

For GlaseNGlitter, after a very slow start to the game, they got rolling in the second half, punctuated by a behind the back assist from Elichai Foger to Jon “The X Factor” Epstein, who was surely not credited for as many rebounds as this writer recalls. Aytan “Never Go Against the Family” Goodman was heard on the sideline yelling “LETS GOOOOO” throughout the team’s comeback in the 2nd half and his optimism and deets during a tense halftime huddle are credited by some for the comeback that followed.

Asked if Aytan deserved the cred for the comeback, Matan “Israel” Berkowitz said, “He’s Cred Goodman. ‘Nuff said.”

Hugh Pollack 45, Sherwood Lumber 43

Hugh Pollack came out hot taking an early 14-4 lead. EMG dominated from start to finish, getting to the hoop at will. Sherwood didn’t have an answer for him.

Sherwood missed what felt like all of their shots in the first half as Max Geller and Jake Fischer started off cold. Pollack was up 11 at the half.

Sherwood came out hot in the second half. Fischer hit a bunch of threes after a quiet first half. Rookie Josh Moskow scored a few in the paint and Michael Paris hit a couple of big threes too. Then Geller started to take over and had a stretch where he hit a few threes in a row.

Sherwood took the lead 10 min into the first half and the two teams traded 1-2 point leads the rest of the way.

Geller continued dominating down the stretch and Sherwood started to run their offense through him. Hugh responded with more defensive pressure on Geller, led by Adam Goldfarb who played great defense on Geller throughout the whole game.

With Hugh leading by two with under two minutes to go, rookie Ben Green hit two huge free throws to give Hugh a three-point lead. After forcing a turnover, EMG was called for a questionable offensive foul that gave the ball back to Sherwood with 30 seconds left. Sherwood cut the lead to two after a free throw but EMG brought the lead back up to 4 after another pair of clutch free throws. Geller hit an off-balanced long two-pointer as time expired but it wasn’t enough.

It seemed like no one could stop EMG who took over from the first tip and didn’t look back, scoring a league-high 27 points.
