VIRGIN GORDA, British Virgin Islands — August 23, 2026 — EAST are the 2026 Senior Division champions after defeating VG Elite 69–62 in a thrilling Game 5 of the Best-of-Five Championship Series on Sunday night at the Jeffery Caines Arena in Virgin Gorda.
With the championship on the line, EAST came out strong, taking a 17–12 lead after the opening quarter. The team continued its impressive start in the second period, outscoring VG Elite 23–15 to take a commanding 40–27 lead into halftime.
VG Elite refused to surrender its championship hopes. The team erupted for 27 points in the third quarter while holding EAST to 16, dramatically cutting the deficit to just two points, 56–54, heading into the final period.
But EAST responded when it mattered most.
The fourth quarter became a defensive battle, with EAST limiting VG Elite to just eight points. EAST scored 13 points in the final period to pull away and secure the 69–62 victory, completing the championship triumph.
Jahmai Jones led all scorers with an outstanding 25-point performance, knocking down four three-pointers. Jason Rhymer added 13 points, while Romain Minott contributed eight points and five rebounds. Cedric King finished with seven points, eight rebounds, three assists and three blocks.
VG Elite received 17 points apiece from Killven Samuel and Stephano Paul. Samuel recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Paul added six rebounds and a game-high eight assists.
The victory capped a remarkable season for EAST, which also finished as the Regular Season Champions. After VG Elite forced a deciding Game 5 with its Game 4 victory, EAST returned to the court with the championship at stake and delivered a composed performance under pressure.
The five-game series provided plenty of drama, momentum swings and outstanding individual performances, but in the end, EAST had the final word.
EAST are the 2026 Senior Division Champions of the Winston Bolus National Basketball League.
