Mt. Zion Stars Jr. Bounce Back to Even Series with Dominant Win Over Young Empire Jr.

Mt. Zion Stars Jr. responded in a big way on Saturday night, dominating Young Empire Jr. 80-50 at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex to even their playoff series.

After falling to Young Empire Jr. in the opening game of the series, Mt. Zion Stars Jr. came out with urgency and controlled the contest from start to finish. They jumped ahead early with a 20-8 first-quarter advantage and continued to build their lead throughout the game, taking a commanding 54-31 lead into the final quarter.

The Stars’ offense was powered by a dominant performance from Zion Phillips, who led all scorers with 34 points while adding 14 rebounds, five assists and five blocked shots. Phillips was unstoppable in the paint, converting 15 field goals as Mt. Zion consistently attacked the basket.

Dillen Webbe provided excellent support with 21 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and five steals, while Steven Palmer contributed 10 points. Mt. Zion also received strong defensive efforts across the roster, finishing with 18 steals and 12 blocked shots as they overwhelmed Young Empire on both ends of the floor.

Young Empire Jr. struggled to find the same offensive rhythm that powered their previous victory. Justin Fergos led the way with 15 points, while Jah’bari De Freitas added 10 points and 14 rebounds. Akiel Adonis chipped in seven points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots, but Young Empire could not overcome Mt. Zion’s early lead.

The Stars controlled the glass throughout the matchup, outrebounding Young Empire 55-43 and creating extra opportunities through their defensive pressure.

With the 80-50 victory, Mt. Zion Stars Jr. tied the playoff series and forced the matchup into a decisive game. Both teams will now return to the court with everything on the line, as the winner of the next game will advance while the other team’s playoff journey comes to an end.
